The Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra is one of India’s most sacred pilgrimages, attracting millions of devotees every year. Situated in the Trikuta Mountains of Jammu & Kashmir, the shrine is dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi — a manifestation of Goddess Durga — who is worshipped here in the form of three natural rock formations called “Pindies.”
The journey begins from Katra, the base camp, with a 12-kilometer trek leading to the Bhawan (main shrine). Pilgrims chant “Jai Mata Di” throughout the route, creating an atmosphere filled with devotion. Travelers can complete the yatra on foot, by pony, palanquin, or opt for helicopter services. The pilgrimage is considered incomplete without visiting Bhairon Mandir, located further uphill.
